    Internship | On-Chip RF Transformer Design Macro

    Reduce on-chip transformer design time by a factor 10

    What will be your role?

    You will perform this assignment in the department of Radar Technology. We are a passionate and creative group of professionals (60 people) dedicated to the specification, development and evaluation of innovative, high-performance MMICs, miniaturised and integrated RF subsystems, antennas and front-ends. The department is at the heart of novel, game-changing radar system and signal processing concepts for the military, space and civil domains.

    You can find more information about the department of Radar Technology here (in Dutch).

    The design-cycle of an on-chip RF transformer is normally time-consuming as it requires multiple iterations of (manual) layout adjustments and EM-simulations. By using the optimizer within the Keysight ADS software in combination with ADS's Momentum EM-simulator, this process can be enhanced. For this purpose a macro is required that you will build. This macro should adjust the RF transformer's layout as function of its design parameters, such as the number of windings and inner diameter. This macro will preferably be implemented in ADS's AEL programming language and should be tested within the design environment.

    The duration of this internship is at least 3 months.

    What we expect from you

    • You are in the final stages of your degree in electrical engineering or a similar degree;
    • You have basic understanding of RF design and have experience in programming;
    • You are pragmatic and focused on making things work;
    • Next to technical expertise we value communication skills and a results-driven attitude.
