Volunteers

Allowing hikers to enjoy the best that the Veluwe has to offer for four days. That is the goal of the Stichting Internationale Vierdaagse Apeldoorn. Since 1954, the 4Daagse Apeldoorn, which always starts on the second Tuesday in July, has been a well-known event among walkers in the Netherlands. Forests and heathlands, but especially the smaller scale character of the event, are reasons for our participants to come to Apeldoorn. The organization is entirely in the hands of our volunteers, and they do a great job. They provide the right personal touch and approach. It is no wonder that a large majority of participants rated the 4Daagse Apeldoorn with a score of 8 or higher in a survey. Tens of thousands of walkers have enjoyed walking in Apeldoorn and the surrounding area over the years, making our event an important foundation for walking sports in the Netherlands.

To keep our organization at the right level and continue to serve everyone well, we are always looking for the right volunteer(s). Maybe you are the one?

Will you be our new volunteer?

The start of our four-day event is always on the second Tuesday in July and lasts until Friday. Start times are from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM each walking day, depending on the distance. The start is from the sports complex of v.v. Victoria Boys, Berghuizerweg 153, 7312 SN Apeldoorn. The weekend before the four-day event, the site is set up, and the tents are arranged. We are still looking for extra people for this setup. On the walking days, Tuesday through Friday, we need a lot of manpower for various tasks along the routes. There are also daily tasks to be done on the site. For clearing and storing items after the walking event, we are looking for people for that Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

What we ask:

• A positive, cooperative attitude and the ability to work together.

• You do not need to be available every day. One or several days or parts of days is also possible.

• Willingness to get up early in some cases.

• We are looking for volunteers for the following tasks:

• Administrative staff for the back office. Interaction with hikers and some language skills (English/Dutch). Depending on the involvement, computer experience may be a plus.

• Volenteers for before, during and after the four-day event to help setup and breakdown. Handy people who like to roll up their sleeves.

• Course builders and arrow removers, volunteers who help set up routes with GPS equipment. Riding an MTB through the forest to place and remove arrows, etc.

• Controllers on the various courses. Checking walkers on the distances to be walked.

• Medical service people with a first aid diploma or (sport) massage. Check on the hikers during the walk.

• Volunteer event traffic controllers at parking and crossing points. Must have an appointment as a traffic controller or be willing to follow e-learning via the SVNL.

• Rest stop coordinator

What we offer:

• • A collegial, enthusiastic group of volunteers.
• • Varying times of engagement per day.
• • For the back office and site, food and drink are provided.
• The outdoor service must provide this for themselves. A compensation for that is given. Depending on the time of engagement.
• • If you come from one of the surrounding villages, a generous mileage allowance is possible.
• • Staff evening before the four-day event at Hotel Apeldoorn - De Cantharel.
• • After the four-day event, upon returning your items, a gift and thank you for your efforts.
• • In the fall, a 'thank you' evening at Hotel Apeldoorn - De Cantharel, to chat with a snack and a drink.
