We are currently recruiting a Security Engineer (m/f/x), to enforce our Technology department. This person will be based in Bussum (the Netherlands) as part of our Central Services team. The Central Services team is located in Antwerp (Belgium), Bussum (the Netherlands), Hamburg and Munich (Germany) and London (the United Kingdom), and consists of more than 50 specialists who are responsible for the legal, reporting, accounting, tax, investor relations, technology and HR functions of Waterland.

your impact?

We are looking for a technically strong and experienced Security Engineer to play a key role in protecting our IT infrastructure and ensuring compliance with NIS2, DORA, and other cybersecurity regulations. This role combines deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of compliance requirements.

You will be responsible for incident response, security monitoring, system hardening, and technical implementation of security controls, while continuously enhancing our cybersecurity posture and aligning with evolving regulatory standards.

Your Responsibilities:

• Incident Response & Reporting: Lead the response to security incidents and ensure timely reporting in line with NIS2/DORA obligations.
• Threat Detection & Monitoring: Operate and fine-tune SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, and other security platforms to detect and mitigate threats.
• Security Architecture & Hardening: Design, implement, and maintain secure infrastructure across cloud and on-prem environments.
• Compliance & Policy Implementation: Translate regulatory requirements (e.g., NIS2, DORA, ISO 27001) into concrete technical controls and governance processes.
• Security Operations: Perform vulnerability assessments, coordinate penetration tests, and conduct forensic investigations where needed.
• Automation & Tooling: Develop and automate security controls, monitoring dashboards, and alerting mechanisms.
• Training & Awareness: Act as a security advisor to internal teams, raising awareness and guiding them in secure practices.

Be your true self

We are seeking candidates (m/f/x) who can meet the following requirements:

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a Security Engineer or comparable technical security role.
• Strong hands-on skills with tools such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, Firewalls, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection platforms.
• Solid knowledge of network security, system hardening, cloud security, and identity & access management (IAM).
• Familiarity with SOC operations, forensic analysis, and incident lifecycle management.
• Experience with compliance standards like NIS2, DORA, ISO 27001 and translating them into real-world security controls.
• Strong analytical mindset, proactive attitude, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Scripting or automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
• Fluent in Dutch and/or English.
