    Internship

    About this job

We are currently looking for a Research Intern to join the team in Delft to work on Machine Learning Models for Hyperspectral Data to start in September 2025 .

Are you ready to make an impact within S[&]T? We're thrilled to help talented students reach their maximum potential. If you'd like to contribute to a safer life on Earth through your master's thesis, we'll be happy to guide you along the way.

One of the latest trends in the satellite Earth observation domain is the request of receiving real-time information from Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Some use case examples are: wildfires, maritime security and flooding. For the satellites to detect such event, different instruments can be used. The instrument focused on in this particular internship is the 'Hyperspectral Optical Imager'.

Hyperspectral data contains more than 100 spectral bands per pixel. The electromagnetic radiation wavelength bandwidth reaches typically between approximately 400nm to the 2500nm. This means that each pixel contains a lot of data. Because of the massive amount of data produced by these instruments, there is not enough bandwidth to send all this data to earth. This means the satellite must be able to do all the observations by itself and only send data to the ground of actual events.

As a Research Intern , you will aim to improve our current classification algorithm.

    Research Intern

    Main responsibilities

    • Under the support of a senior engineer, you will research if its possible to improve the classification algorithms currently developed by S[&]T.
    • In addition, you will try to extend the S[&]T classification portfolio by exploring a relevant use case and train a new model based on this use case. You will document your findings.

    Requirements

You will be the perfect match if you are:

    • Excited to dive into a cutting-edge topic for your master's thesis .
    • Studying Applied Mathematics or Applied Physics (or a related field).
    • Have experience with Python .
    • Have experience with Git .
    • Not afraid to be thrown in the deep, a ble to work independently.
    • Passionate about satellite data and the fusion of Space, Data Science & Machine Learning .
    • Enrolled in a master's program for the entire internship duration .
    • Preferably already based in the Netherlands .
    • Fluent in English .
    • Motivated , eager to learn, and ready to make an impact.

Please note that if you do not hear back from us within 10 days of your application, you may assume that we have selected another candidate we would like to interview for this position.
