About this job

We are currently looking for a Research Intern to join the team in Delft in the Satellite Image Anomaly Detection - Climate Research domain to start in September 2025 .

We welcome interns at every stage of their academic journey! Whether you're a bachelor's student looking to gain hands-on experience, a master's student seeking an internship, or you're ready to dive into your master's thesis - we've got opportunities for you. Since early 1970's, meteorological agencies across the world do climate research based on geostationary satellite images. In these images, anomalies can occur, for example due to hardware errors. These anomalies have a wide variety of forms. In order to take corrective actions, anomaly detectors have been developed.

As a Research Intern , you will contribute to the development of such detectors. For that, you will be provided with a large dataset (over 50 years of data), with a wide variety of instruments, data formats and spatial resolutions, as well as with access to some of the models currently used.

Possible research topics:

  • Missing pixel inpainting.

  • Hurricane detection.
  • Image mask compression.
  • Foreground/background segmentation (between Earth + Space pixels).
  • Satellite orbit reconstruction.

Research Intern

Main responsibilities
