The Challenge
The Strategic R&D department is part of the MTIC group within the Stamicarbon organization, the Licensing and IP center for the MAIRE Group. This department is working in a project environment being responsible for the coordination and execution of strategic innovation projects. To catch up with the expanding business and to further strengthen Stamicarbon's strategic R&D department we are recruiting for a:
R&D Test Engineer Solids Processing
In this role you organize, follow and supervise the test programs on the relevant new technologies to produce nitrogen-based, nutrient and efficiency enhanced, sustainable specialty fertilizers, and report on related outcomes, as a support to the technology development activities of the company.
Your key areas of responsibility are to:
• Develop know-how of and IP for new and improved technologies to produce specialty fertilizers;
• Support Strategic R&D projects, by organizing, coordinating, executing and reporting on test activities;
• Test and co-develop new finishing technologies for new nitrogen-based specialty fertilizers;
• Setup laboratory test programs, to investigate, for example, fertilizer product quality;
• Setup bench scale and pilot plant test programs and prepare, organize and execute these test programs, to develop and test new technologies for specialty fertilizer production;
• Cooperate with internal as well as external partners such as research institutes, universities, equipment vendors and customers for test activities;
• Supervise tests performed at external partner facilities, and report on the test outcomes;
• Act as operator/experimenter for bench scale or pilot plant tests;
• Propose improvements for next laboratory scale, bench scale or pilot plant test runs;
• Participate in the scaling-up of the pilot plant test results to industrial scale applications;
• Support the transfer of a successfully developed technology into running business, by supporting and contributing to the preparation of a technology transfer package;
• Execute all activities in an international setting (in- as well as outside Stamicarbon);
• Frequent travelling abroad, sometimes for longer periods of time.
The Candidate
You combine at least a Bachelor Degree level in an Engineering Discipline (preferable Chemical or Mechanical Engineering) with at least 5 years of work experience, working as an R&D Test Engineer or Process or Plant Engineer in a technical environment in the process industry. You have a professional understanding of process technologies (gas/fluid/solids processing), and a good knowledge about and experience with job safety and HAZOP studies. Having practical experience with solids handling (e.g. storage, dosing, milling, screening, etc.) and finishing technologies (e.g. granulation, spray drying, compacting, etc.) is a must. Conceptual process engineering skills are necessary to design or adapt pilot plants for its test applications and for translating newly developed technologies to full scale production.

Therefore, good communication skills and an excellent command of English (verbally as well as written) are necessary for the success of this position. A good command of the German language is preferred as well. You enjoy frequent travelling abroad.
