A Unique Opportunity - Work & PhD study combined
The position includes a PhD study at Wageningen University & Research, the world's #1 agricultural university. You will work on modeling the environmental impact of functional feed ingredients and nutritional strategies by connecting animal response models with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models. Your first focus will be in poultry. This role will be for approximate 50% of your time and provide a great opportunity to further develop your expertise and skills that can also be applied across species.
About The Role:
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Impactful PhD Research
Pursue a PhD at Wageningen University & Research, modeling the environmental impact of feed ingredients and farming strategies to shape future sustainable animal nutrition and farming practices.
- Lead Sustainability assessments
Conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) and environmental risk evaluations of functional ingredients and feed programs, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14040/44, PEF).
- Develop and optimize environmental data systems
Support maintenance and development of our footprint databases, integrating them with digital tools and automated reporting systems to drive data-driven sustainability insights.
- Drive Sustainable product and service innovation
Collaborate with R&D and technical-commercial teams to develop sustainable feed solutions, feeding programs and digital tools, reducing the environmental footprint impact of animal nutrition.
- Knowledge sharing & industry representation
Provide training on environmental footprint calculations, contribute to sustainability strategies, and represent Trouw Nutrition in technical networks, working groups, and conferences.
Skills and Expertise:
Qualifications:
- Master of science in agriculture, aquaculture, environmental science/engineering, or biological science.
- Talented and motivated to work in quantitative modeling in animal science.
- Strong interest in sustainable farming and food systems.
- Fluent in (verbal and written) English
